DIY: Beaded Wrap Bracelet

I've been on the lookout for bright and playful jewelry for the summer and fell in love with Chan Luu's stylish wrap bracelets. I was instantly inspired to make my own custom arm candy and complete my DIY jewelry collection.

Take a trip to the craft store and grab your favorite beads and colored thread to make your own. Mix 'n match to create a one-of-a-kind design. The perfect project for a craft + movie night!

Follow the steps below to make your very own.

Materials:

Makes a triple wrap bracelet. Lengths may vary depending on the size of your wrist

• 5-6 feet of waxed cotton cord (1mm or 1.5mm thick)
• 10 feet of embroidery floss
• Beads (I used 30. Make sure the holes are large enough to fit the needle and embroidery floss)
• Threading needle
• Button
• Safety pin
• Scissors
• Optional: Needle threader (embroidery floss may be difficult to thread)

Steps:

1. Knot: Fold the cotton cord in half, knotting at the top to make a 1 inch loop. Make sure it is large enough for your button to fit through.
2. Attach: Run a safety pin through the knot and attach it to a pillow or another working surface. Grab the embroidery floss and knot it several times tightly to the thick cord right beneath the knot.
3. Wrap: Holding the cord tightly, start wrapping the embroidery floss around it for about 2.5 - 3 inches.
4. Over, Under & Pull: Make a knot with the wrapped floss to hold it in place. You can do this by placing the embroidery floss OVER the cord in a "D" shape, then taking the end of the floss and running it under and through the "D" shape, then pulling tightly.
5. Thread: Thread the needle through the embroidery floss. Tip: Use a needle threader if you have any difficulty.
6. Bead it: Run your first bead through the needle and pull it all the way through. Separate the 2 ends of the cord so that the bead sits in between them.
7. Bead it...backwards: Take the end of the embroidery floss and lay it over the right cord. Now, slide it underneath the right cord and run the needle through the back end of the bead (opposite direction).
8. Pull: Pull the floss all the way until the bead sits snugly at the top. Lay the end of the floss over the left cord. Slide it underneath the left cord and run your second bead through.
9. Repeat: Repeat until you have a total of ten beads. Then, repeat steps 3-9, transitioning from wrapping and beading until you've reached your desired length.
10. Button: To create a clasp, attach the button to the threads by knotting them all together. Cut off excess thread. Slide the button through the loop to close.

Tip: If you'd like a better visual of the beading step, check out this video (not made by me).
