5 Minute DIY: Hanging Vases from Ornaments

The holidays might be over, but that doesn't mean we can't put our Christmas decorations to use! Instead of packing them up in the attic for 335 days of the year, I now have a dozen vases hanging from trees all over my backyard! I think these would also make great decorations for parties, bridal showers, baby showers and outdoor weddings.

In less than five minutes, you can upcycle most glass ornaments into these little flower vases. And by attaching a piece of fishing line, you can hang them up practically anywhere. No cutting, gluing or sewing involved...just the way I like it.

Now, let's get started!

Materials:
Glass ornament (I bought a pack of 4 from Michaels for $3)
Gravel or sand
Fishing line
Scissors

Steps:
Remove the top off the ornament. Separate the cap from the hook. Make sure the ornament has a long "V" shaped wire hook as shown above. The short ones will not hold the weight of the vase.
Place a little bit of gravel into the ornament (not too much or else it will get too heavy).
Tie a fishing line onto the top of the hook and place the hook back into the ornament.
Before adding water, dangle the ornament from the wire to ensure it holds up (place your hand underneath just in case it drops).
Add water (not too much) and flowers. Again, ensure it holds up properly before hanging.

Note: To create a table vase, remove the top cap and wire altogether. Just add the pebbles and water. Play around with the amount of pebbles until the ornament balances evenly on the table.
